Fantastic Dinner, Start to Finish
By Sean Holihan. March 3, 2009
My partner and I decided to try out this place for our birthdays yesterday. I've never been and haven't heard anything about the restaurant b/c I've been in Richmond for the past two months for work.
Sometimes, trying something new really works out. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a friendly face and promptly sat. After ordering a couple drinks, we placed an order for their Trio of Homemade Spreads which is a roasted red pepper and sharp cheddar cheese, lemon and garlic hummus and sun-dried tomato and olive tapenade. Nothing too unusual sounding about it, something you're used to in tapas-crazy Norfolk. Except when it was delivered we found that these were no small portions. Ice-cream sized servings of three deliciously made spreads made this plate something special everyone should try with drinks and a few friends.
For dinner, we ordered the Bayou Shrimp and Chicken Pasta and the Fresh Seafood Pot Pie. While the Pot Pie takes a while to cook as it's baked to order, it's completely worth it. A large dish fit for a king, this entrée caught the eyes of everyone around us when placed in front of us. Baked with the catch of the day with shrimp and vegetables, this is something everyone wanting a great winter meal should try. Everything was cooked perfectly and the sauce was good enough to ask for more bread to dip them in. The Bayou Shrimp and Chicken dish was just as good-a nice mixture of spice and cream featuring bow-tie pastas and large shrimp in a big dish we weren't able to finish.
When our waitress Karine, an old friend of ours, heard it was our birthday she brought out a jumbo sized cupcake with champagne in the middle of it. A great treat to end the evening. This was one of the best meals I've had in all the years I've lived in Ghent. I'd strongly recommend people who haven't been give Press 626 a try.
